Georgia State Rep. Karla Drenner To Endorse LaFontaine
First Open Lesbian Elected in Georgia to Step Out at Fundraiser at New Moon Bar
Fort Lauderdale – State Legislature candidate Mark LaFontaine (District 92) will receive the endorsement of Georgia State Representative Karla Drenner, the first and only openly-gay state representative in Georgia. Now in her fourth term, Drenner represents the 86th District (DeKalb County). In endorsing Drenner for reelection last year, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution claimed that her “expertise on issues critical to Georgia makes her too valuable to lose.”
Drenner owns an environmental safety and health consulting firm and has published One: The True Story of Politics, Prayer and the Power of One. Among her legislative achievements, Drenner wrote a law protecting Georgia's environment by promoting water conservation; secured $600,000 in Department of Transportation funds for the City of Clarkston to upgrade its portion of the bike path to Stone Mountain; and worked through both sides of the General Assembly in support of a law that repeals marriage without parental consent when the woman is pregnant. Drenner has been honored by the Victory Fund with the Representative Karla L. Drenner scholarship.
Drenner will be the guest of honor at a women’s fundraiser for LaFontaine at the New Moon Bar, a popular lesbian bar in Wilton Manors. New Moon owner Carol Moran is proud to host this event.
